Beginner-Friendly Gym Hitchin

A Gym For Beginners
in Hitchin

Nervous about joining a gym? You're exactly who we built Square One for. Friendly coaches, a proper induction and a community that remembers what day one felt like.

Walking into a gym for the first time is intimidating — everyone seems to know what they're doing, and nobody tells you where to start. At Square One we've deliberately built a different experience: every new member gets a proper welcome, a walkthrough of the equipment and help to build a simple starting routine.

You don't need to be fit to start. You don't need to know what a superset is. You need a plan that fits your life, coaches who explain things clearly, and an environment where asking questions is normal. Our team includes coaches who specialise in working with complete beginners, and our members are genuinely welcoming — many of them started exactly where you are.

Start with a free pass, come in for a no-pressure tour, or book a session with a beginner-friendly personal trainer. However you start, you won't be left to figure it out alone.

Common Questions

I'm really unfit — will I be judged?

No. Our members and staff genuinely welcome beginners. Everyone here started somewhere, and you'll find the atmosphere supportive rather than intimidating.

What should I do on my first visit?

Just turn up. We'll show you around, explain the equipment and help you get started with something simple. If you'd like more structure, we can build you a beginner programme.

Do I need to buy special clothes or equipment?

Comfortable clothes and trainers are all you need. Everything else is provided.

Is personal training worth it for a beginner?

It's the fastest way to build confidence. A few sessions with a coach teaches you correct technique and gives you a plan — many beginners start with a short block of PT.
