Common Questions
I haven't trained in 20 years — is it too late to start?
Not at all. Strength training delivers some of its biggest benefits when you start later — muscle, bone density and energy all respond at any age. We start where you are and progress sensibly.
I have a dodgy back/knee/shoulder — can I still train?
In most cases, yes — intelligent training often helps. Your coach assesses your movement first and builds a plan that works around, and gradually strengthens, problem areas. We'll always advise you to consult your GP where appropriate.
Will I be training next to 20-year-olds throwing weights around?
Square One has a genuinely mixed membership and a respectful floor culture. Many of our members are in their 40s, 50s and 60s — you'll fit right in.
How many sessions a week do I need?
Most over-40s clients see excellent results from two coached sessions per week plus simple homework. Your coach will recommend what fits your recovery and diary.
